This is one way to remove stubborn door hinge pins
The Problem – A stubborn hinge pin for a door
When you need to remove a door, either interior or exterior, you might run into stubborn hinge pins. Usually you can tap the top of the pin with a screwdriver. In some cases, the bottom is open and you and simply tap the pin out with a punch or small phillips head scredriver.
However, there are times when the pin is frozen from rust, paint or just age. In that case, you might not be able to remove it easily.
One solution – Vise grips.
One solution is to clamp a pair of vise grips on the top of the pin. You can either wiggle it loose and up or tap gently on the vise grips. You will probably need to adjust the vise grips for a tight grip. Once you get the pin raised a little, you should be able to get under it with a flathead screwdriver or punch and remove it completely.
Note – that this probably will mar the cap of the pin a little. In most cases, this is probably acceptable.
