Grilled Watermelon on the BBQ

For a delicious, easy treat, try glazing watermelon and grilling it on your barbeque. You simply coat the watermelon and throw it on the grill.

A different way to enjoy watermelon.

There are a lot of recipes floating around for grilling watermelon. They are essentially variations on the same theme. Coat the watermelon and grill it.

I used honey and a touch of cinnamon. You simply coat the watermelon wedges and put them on a grill over medium heat. It takes about 2 minutes per side. You want the grill marks to show.

The coating will probably caramelize a bit. The texture of the watermelon changes and becomes a bit meatier and is a little less sweet. On the other hand the glaze will add some sweetness (and calories/carbs).

We have done something similar with pineapples with good results. Barbecued watermelon is an interesting addition to any outdoor meal.

You can experiment with a variety of fruit. As far as glazes, you can try mixtures of honey, lemon, lime, cinnamon, brown sugar or whatever else you wish.
